Recap of the Met Gala

Last night was the star-studded event of what is the Met Gala, dubbed the Oscars of Fashion and indeed there were some fashion statements. With the event itself being so exclusive only allowing cameras a view of the red carpet, and not inside, all eyes were on those staircases leading to the entrance of the gala.

It was deemed “boring” by Page Six as many did not find a consistency in this year’s theme. In past years the theme was respected with most celebrities going with it. This year, however, it was deemed a bit of a mess and once again “boring”. The fashion was not as outrageous as previous years and people were not mingling as much as previous years it was reported.

The event also had a bit fewer stars with the guest list being only a tiny bit smaller than previous years and also notable guests were missing from this year’s lineup such as Taylor Swift, Sarah Jessica Parker, Lady Gaga and Andy Cohen. Usually, those names are never missing from a big event. However, some A-listers made their debuts such as Halle Berry, Celine Dion, and Paris Jackson.

Some names that were the attention of the party were Yolanda Foster and her model daughters Gigi and Bella Hadid as well as model Cara Delevingne and designers Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen. Several celebrities made a statement in their designer gowns. Blake Lively was wearing a custom-made Versace gown, Kate Hudson wore a Stella McCartney gown, Kim Kardashian with a Vivienne Westwood white dress, and Madonna in a Moschino military look.

The theme of the night was ‘Rei Kawakubo/Comme des Garcons: Art of the In-Between’, while few decided to take a risk at actually going for the bold, and colorful theme. Many seemed to go with their own looks unlike last year where the theme was heavily followed which was ‘Manus x Machina: Fashion In An Age Of Technology’, with many gowns and dresses making a ‘futuristic’ statement.
