Anna Marie Tendley and John Mulaney split after a six year marriage. Almost seven years, actually. John spoke fondly of Anna Marie throughout the years.
John Mulaney representative confirmed to PEOPLE that they have split officially. The spokesperson told Page Six that, “John will not have any further comment as he continues to focus on his recovery and getting back to work.”
John went to rehab in December 2020 after suffering a relapse from his longtime addiction battle. In February 2021, a source confirmed that the former Saturday Night Live writer completed his 60-day program. Later, he continued to work on his sobriety as an outpatient.
Sources said Anna Tendler is “heartbroken” about the couple’s split. Nevertheless, she supports John supporting Mulaney in his recovery journey.
“I am heartbroken that John has decided to end our marriage. “I wish him support and success as he continues his recovery,” she said.
Mulaney and Tendler’s Relationship Journey
In 2018, Mulaney spoke of how he is “allowed to make fun” of Tendler and that he even “asked her” permission to do so. However, Tendler requested: “‘Just don’t say that I’m a bitch and that you don’t like me.'”
In response, he said, “I would never say that, not even as a joke, that my wife is a bitch and I don’t like her. That is not true,” he said. “My wife is a bitch and I like her so much. She is a dynamite, 5-foot, Jewish bitch and she’s the best. She and I have totally different styles.”
Furthermore, John Mulaney also said that she was his hero:
“When my wife walks down the street, she does not give a s— what anyone thinks of her in any situation. She’s my hero. When I walk down the street, I need everybody, all day long, to like me so much. It’s exhausting.”
In addition to that, John joked that Anna was in love with Timothee Chalamet in his standup set:
“My wife is in love with this Timothée Chalamet son of a bitch. He’s, like, 21 years old. It is a joke when she kids me about it, but it is not a joke. I’m 6 feet tall, that is like, a big deal to me. I don’t know why it is a big deal but I like that I’m 6 feet tall. We were coming back from dinner the other night, my wife walks past me, she goes, ‘You know Timothée Chalamet’s 6’1.’ I just internalized it. The next day, I looked it up online and it said he was 5’11. So I leave the garage…My office is in the garage .A nd I go into the home where she is. I go into her office and I go, ‘You know, he is 5’11.’ She goes, ‘What?’ I go, ‘The boy! He is not 6’1”, he is 5’11.”‘
In December 2019, Mulaney said: “Anna, I don’t know how to pose in photos but I am lucky to be next to you,” he continued. “And you’re the only person I want to make laugh, truly.”
