Parks around the New York City’s economically challenged neighborhoods don’t get the satisfaction of entertainment that they desire.  But all of that changes when New York City Mayor, Bill de Blasio upgrades them for $150 million.

Mr. de Blasio is upgrading the five parks in the city in order to fight inequality.  “The people who needed it the most got the least,” Mr. de Blasio said in the New York Times.

The parks included the St. Mary’s Park in the South Bronx, Betsy Head Park in Brownsville, Brooklyn and Astoria Park in Queens.  Each one of them had little to offer tourists and the people of New York.  One example is the St. Mary’s Park, which consists of ball fields and playgrounds but the lighting didn’t meet the satisfaction for the New Yorkers.

New York officials have communicated with the locals and have asked them how they could improve the parks in their general area.  Others have formed groups in order to help improve their community.

Groups and organizations such as the Community Parks Initiative have used the money to add new recreational fields and pools.  Adding such accommodations will help improve the parks and draw in more people to enjoy them.

The Parks Without Borders program have used their money to improve the parks’ entrances and perimeters along the sidewalks and streets, according to the New York Times.

Each one of the five parks will get a $30 million upgrade in order to help improve their neighborhoods.  With the new improvement, New Yorkers will have more to look forward to when they decide to take a stroll through the park.

If anyone is going to have their day at the park, they will now have more features in the area to look forward to next time they show.
