Has Meghan Markle Got Royal Protocol Over Son Archie’s Title Wrong?

Meghan

According to Omid Scobie, Meghan Markle may have got the royal protocol around her son Archie’s titles “wrong”. Omid is Meghan’s friend.

Recently, Meghan’s and Harry’s interview with talk show host Oprah Winfrey went viral. The Duchess of Sussex told Oprah that her son Archie was entitled to a royal title. However, the protocol was changed shortly before his birth.

In addition to that, Meghan claimed that she was told Archie would not be given the title of Prince or Princess and would not be offered security.

“They were saying they didn’t want him to be a Prince or Princess, which would be different from protocol, and that he wasn’t going to receive security. This went on for the last few months of our pregnancy where I was going, hold on for a second,” Meghan told Oprah.

Recently, Meghan congratulated William and Kate on their wedding anniversary.

“They said [he’s not going to get security], because he’s not going to be a Prince. Okay, well, he needs to be safe so we are not saying don’t make him a Prince or Princess. But if you are saying the title is what is going to affect that protection. We have not created this monster machine around us in terms of clickbait and tabloid fodder you have allowed that to happen which means our son needs to be safe,” the Duchess of Sussex explained.

Moreover, Duchess Meghan explained that while the grandeur around this stuff is not really important to her, she felt that if he (Archie) needed the title to “be safe” she wanted him to have one. However, royal historians have since claimed that Archie is not entitled to be a Prince or Princess.

“Archie will be able to use the title of HRH Prince when Charles becomes King,” said Royal historian Carolyn Harris

In addition to that, Carolyn Harris also said:

“But it is possible that he will not use this title. Archie will not be able to pass the title of Prince or Princess to his children as they will be another generation removed from the sovereign, but the title of Duke of Sussex will pass to Prince Harry’s male line descendants.”

Omid Scobie’s Thoughts On The Situation

Biographer Omid Scobie admitted the Duchess may have got it wrong in response to Meghan’s claims in the documentary.

“If we are only going by what Meghan said to Oprah and what the palace has said so far about the situation with Archie, perhaps one can assume that Meghan was wrong in her interpretation of it. But we also know that there is much more to this story that we don’t know about.” Omid explained.

On the other hand, Prince Harry and Meghan claimed to be regretful and embarrassed about the Oprah interview. However, they may have taken advantage of the long-standing tradition allowing Archie to become Earl of Dumbarton.

According to Royal Expert Antonio Capracia, “Not all of Elizabeth’s direct grandchildren have the princely title. Little Archie has a courtesy title as Earl of Dumbarton, but he is not a prince for the simple reason that only those of direct succession to the throne are princes: Charles, William and William’s sons.”
