No one likes to get sick, and even worse, no one ever wants to end up in a hospital. As New Yorkers, we are constantly hearing the loud noise of ambulances rushing through the city scrambling to get someone to a hospital or to help. No hospital is a nice place to visit or go to, but now a new report has indicated that although the circumstance may not be good, one is in the best care.
According to a new report conducted by the U.S. News & World Report rankings, three New York City hospitals have ranked in the top 20 in the nation. These results came out for the 2016 to 2017 rankings. New York City is the only city to have three hospitals on the list, as no city has more than two hospitals in the rankings. New York City has had a reputation for having ‘good hospitals’ and good care to such a high population.
Coming in on top for the Big Apple is New York Presbyterian Hospital. The hospital has two locations, one on the Upper East Side and Washington Heights. For New York, it is number one, but nationally it is number six, with Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota coming in at number one.
Top talent has always been used at New York Presbyterian Hospital, as it has been ranked number two in rheumatology, number three in cardiology and heart surgeries, and number three in neurology. The reason for good doctors and nurses is that the hospital has two medical schools in Columbia University, an ivy league school, and Weill Cornell which is part of Cornell University, another ivy league school.
Coming in at number two for New York was New York University (NYU), Langone Medical center, and scored a ranking of number ten in the nation. It’s specialties include orthopedics, geriatrics, neurology, and neurosurgery.
Lastly for New York was Mount Sinai Hospital which ranked number 15 in the rankings. They specialize in cardiology, heart surgeries, and gastroenterology. The hospital is located on the Upper East Side.
An evaluation of 4,553 hospitals in the United States was used to conduct the survey. Anything in a top 50 is considered very good, so for three hospitals to be in a top 20 is highly impressive and makes one feel in good care of our cities hospitals. Other hospitals in New York City have also received national recognition such as Sloan Kettering, and the Hospital for Special Surgery.
