Willow Smith came out as polyamorous and she hopes to educate others on misconceptions of non-monogamous relationships. Moreover, she shared her own experiences. Polyamorous means being in more than one intimate relationship at the same time. 

On Wednesday’s episode of “Red Table Talk”, the 20-year-old daughter of movie stars Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith spoke of being polyamorous. Furthermore, Will revealed that she cannot see herself ‘going past two partners’.

“With polyamory, I feel like the main foundation is the freedom to be able to create a relationship style that works for you and not just stepping into monogamy because that’s what everyone around you says is the right thing to do,” Will said.

Will revealed part of a candid chat with her mother, Jada Pinkett-Smith, and grandmother, Adrienne Banfield-Norris:

“So I was like, how can I structure the way that I approach relationships with that in mind? Also, doing research into polyamory, the main reason why monogamous relationships – or why marriage – why divorces happen is infidelity,” Will said.

Adrienne said to her (Will), “For somebody like me, it feels like it’s really all just centered around sex.”

Will opened up that she practices ethical non-monogamy. That means that all partners give consent to being polyamorous.

In addition to that, Will noted that she was introduced to consensual non-monogamy “through kind of a non-sexual lens.” She explained that having more than one partner at a time doesn’t mean she’s more sexually active. 

“In my friend group, I’m the only polyamorous person. I have the least sex out of all of my friends,” she said.

Furthermore, Willow Smith said the ‘history of marriage really irks me’.

“Let’s say me and my partner or partners wants to help people and we need to put our finances together in order to make that vision happen. That’s the only way I could see myself getting married,” she said.

She noted that she found a more open, compassionate listener in her mother Jada Smith.

“I’m okay with whatever you do,” Jada said.

“When you were like, ‘Hey, this is my get down.’ I was like, ‘I totally get it.’ Wanting to set up your life in a way that you can have what it is that you want, I think anything goes as long as the intentions are clear,” Jada Smith explained.

Will About Bisexuality

In 2019, Will Smith emphasized on being polyfidelitous and being bisexual.

“I’m not the kind of person that is constantly looking for new sexual experiences. I focus a lot on the emotional connection and I feel like if I were to find two people of different genders that I really connected with and we had a romantic and sexual connection, I don’t feel like I would feel the need to try to go find more,” she said in 2019.
